Finished Bile Thrall Conversion!

It's finally done!  Sorry it took so long, I took a few days off from painting for life.  The thralls actually paint up pretty easy, I had the most difficulty with the liquid effect.  The only thing I was thinking of adding at this point was a little more putrid green on the pool part on the ground and in the stomach.  The gun is highlighted, just very subtly.  It shows more in real life than in the pics.  Quite a few pics!

Bile Thrall Conversion Part 3!

And so it continues!  Only a few pics this time.  I've completed the explosion pieces and primed the model. I meant to take pics before priming so you could see the final GS areas, but was just so damn happy to be done that I went out and primed him right away.  Ah well.  The lighting was really bad on these, so he looks kind of yellowish, but I promise you the color is a tan primer.

The last pic is of a heart I made of GS and stuck into the explosion.  It's a little oversized but hey, they're not exactly human anyway...  I need to paint a test model with one of my normal Bile Thralls first, and then I'll post up pics of this one once he's painted!

Okay, here is the test thrall.

It's kind of hard to see, but the flesh is a very, very pale green (so pale it's almost beige) with brown and darker green shadings.  The purple, gold and black metallic are the tie-in of my whole army, and I think they actually look with him.  As you can see, his eyes are purple/pink (the same necro-glow color of my jacks), but the acid is actually green.  I think it'll look great once applied to the exploded thrall.

Bile Thrall Conversion Part 2!

Alright, a little more work and a few more pics!  I got the River Troll vomit bits in the mail, so finally started getting to work on the explosion part.

As you can see, I put the River Troll bits on the sides.  I've started adding GS to the bottom for a third bit of explosion as well.  I filed down the vomit pieces a bit to both remove most of the fish bones (I left a couple just to have bones in the explosion, but no fish heads), as well as to make it a little less crowded.  Next step is to finish the GS for the bottom of the explosion, then add a couple of organ bits into the explosion bits.

Going with Tim's suggestion, I went and picked up a clear Epoxy resin.  This was my test bit to see how much color I wanted to add.  I also threw in a piece of plastic so I could see just how deep I can place it before losing visibility.  Because I still want to see the spine and rib bits, I think I'm going to go a little bit lighter on the clear paint (maybe one drop less of red and green).  You can't tell in this pic very well because it's on a black base, but it actually is a dark red with a little green in there.  After it hardens, I'm going to then use the clear green paint to do another light glaze on top to give it more of an acid look and less like blood.  More of an acid with blood mixed in instead of blood with acid mixed in.

I'm going to do all of this after I've painted the rest of the model and sealed it, otherwise the resin will get cloudy from the sealant.  More pics to come!  Thoughts so far?

Bile Thrall Conversion!

Never being able to focus on just one army at a time is a problem I know many of us gamers have, and I am definitely no exception to that rule!  My bigger problem is that it takes me so long to finish even the smallest projects that nothing I have ever truly gets finished.  With that said, it's on to the next project!  I decided that I wanted one of my Bile Thralls to represent the "Purge" special attack they have and so decided to make him explode.  Not sure how to really do it, I asked around and got some great tips from Dr. C, so thanks Jason!  I have just begun the process and can tell this will take me a while.

The paperclips sticking out are what I'm going to  mold the greenstuff around to represent the spray.  I'm also going to try a trick Dr. C gave me about glue and ink that will hopefully give a more watery effect to the the acid idea.  I'm not that great with green stuff, so modeling organs and intestines blowing out will be the hardest part for me.  The little bit of greenstuff you see is to represent a flap of skin that tore away with the tube when he exploded.  I'm going to fray the edges a little more, but I figured starting with that little bit will let me learn how to model the edges of the blown out stomach.  I will keep this updated as I go along, hopefully it won't be too long.

Edit: 9/28
Okay, no new pics yet.  I've green-stuffed a heart together, and though it looks a little big for the model it works for me!  I've also rolled up some intestine, which was easy so luckily if I need more I can make it in no time!  However, as I attempted to model liquid-looking bits I came to realize this is going to be harder than I initially thought.  So I'm cheating... I've ordered the vomit bits from the GW River Trolls sprue to give me some prefabricated liquid bits.  I figure I should be able to model from those with a little more ease.  I also just got some skeleton torsos from Bobby, which I'm going to chop up for the use of rib and spinal column bits.  Once I get the River Troll bits I'll give it another go and post something new up!

Edit: 10/3
Yay, new pics!!  I've done a little work as you can see.  I've added some green stuff to the edge of the hole and tried to fray it, though I think I need to trim down just a few more pieces.  The big thing is that I've also added in a piece of broken spinal column and some ribs to the piece.

Next I'm going to mix up some Elmers glue with water to try to create a little bit of a puddle inside the stomach area.  I'm going to try it in a small mixing bowl first in case it doesn't work, but what I'm hoping is it will dry clear but thick enough to hold a piece of plastic inside.  This way I can add clear paint to get a bloody acid effect and the green stuff organs to the puddle then, using the river troll vomit bits that just finally came in the mail, work my way out with the explosion.

Finished the Falcon!

Hooray, I finally finished painting my converted Eldar Falcon!  I think it came out pretty good for my first time using plasticard.  The top part where I added the extended fin isn't as smooth as the bottom part where I did the same, but I'm still happy with it.  Let me know what you think!

I now have 3 fully painted falcons and 1 fully painted Waveserpent.  I also have  a second waveserpent I have put a basecoat of midnight blue on, and if I get my butt around to paining the weapons I can have fully interchangeable weapon systems on all 5 vehicles.  The only thing I really need to do is change out the bottom hull weapon of my painted waveserpent.  I put a Shuriken Cannon on it back in the day when S6 weapons were defensive but now it is just a waste.

Finished the Bonejack

I couldn't fit this in to the other post with all the pics, but I wanted to post the final pics of the bonejack.  I must say I'm happy with it.  I've received good feedback on the pink, and I like the basing.  I just need to seal it and then I'm going to put a small bit of hardcoat on the green slime-pool at his feet to give it a more watery effect.

January 20, 2011

Wow, so it's been over a year since I've posted on my blog.  So, to get back in to it (and hopefully keep with it more!), I've painted my first Cryx Bonejack for Warmachine.  I am pretty sure it's done (minus the base), but I haven't sealed it yet so I'm open to suggestions.

In case you can't tell, the main body is dark purple, with some greenish gold armor plating and a metallic black underbody.

Okay, did a little bit more.  Tried to darken the recesses of the face a little and make the green a darker to differentiate from the teeth.  Also added a rune on the left side.
